Julian O'Neill has returned to Wakefield Trinity Wildcats on a two-year deal.
The much-travelled stand-off had changed codes to play for French rugby union side Pau, but has made a rapid return to rugby league.
The 32-year-old has previously played for Brisbane Broncos and North Queensland in his native Australia and London Broncos, Wigan and Widnes in Super League.
Wakefield coach Shane McNally said he wanted O'Neill to replace captain Gareth Ellis, who has joined Leeds Rhinos.
"He's a dynamic line runner, and his experience will be invaluable to us," he said.
" There were a few times last year when we lacked big-game experience, and someone like Julian could have got us home."
McNally failed to sign former Warrington forward Jerome Guisset from Brive and has now turned his attentions to Leeds prop Chris Feather.
"We're hoping to finalise everything with Leeds to get Chris Feather back," he added. "He is probably not going to get a lot of first-team `footie' at Leeds and he's familiar with how we play.""
It's a good signing for us, we have a young team and need to bring in some experience

He started on one of the field's on the bus on the way to London. He's telling everyone he's the senior player so everyone does what he says and also he's going round telling everyone he has a better salary
