KEVIN BLACKWELL has chosen Simon Walton as his young player of the season. The teenager was recently dropped from the first team after the 4-0 thrashing against Sheffield United but Blackwell is pleased with the progress made by the Leeds-born youngster.
Walton has played in midfield for most of the season but played in a unfamiliar right-back position for the games with Wolves and Sheffield United.
The 17-year-old had a nightmare against the Blades and was back playing in the reserves this week against Birmingham and Everton.
Blackwell said in the Yorkshire Evening Post: "Simon had a tough game after doing okay against Wolves. He didn't play well against Sheffield United and I made the decision to take him out for his own good. He's had a tremendous season and he is my young player of the year by a mile. Simon's got a massive future at this club and I'm glad I'm now able to give him a rest."

he deserves it apart from a few sticky patches he has performed well and spent almost all of the season playing out of position in midfield (hes a center back)

Gary Kelly replaced him, he has played very well in midfield and at centre back, but against Sheff Utd he was playing right back and was given a bit of a runaround

thats a fair reason, dont kill off the young players confidence while they r young. the little run in the team cant of harmed him tho

anyway back to the topic,
we say that he's been playing out of position because hes supposedly a centre back, but he should play wherever hes asked, as he has done, and he seems very comfortable in centre mid, he has pace and can tackle, but does he have the positioning and defensive mind to compete for right centre back. he seems to small for that position. but he definitely plays like an attacking centre mid.
he's definitely my young player of the year, with aaron lennon closely behind him. we need mor youngsters, either coming through the ranks or from loan signings. if lennon stays, then hes gonna get us promoted next season, but blackwell should play him on the left, with simon johnson on the right.
